Family tech support gets easier: Screen sharing comes to WhatsApp video calls

WhatsApp is one of the most popular apps for video calling out there, and it delivers a pretty decent list of features. Unlike other platforms, though, WhatsApp users can’t share their phone screens during video calls.

Fortunately, WABetaInfo reports that screen-sharing functionality is now rolling out to the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.23.11.19). This feature can purportedly be enabled by tapping a new icon in the call control menu during video calls.

“WhatsApp will have access to all of the information that is visible on your screen or played from your device while recording or casting. This includes information such as passwords, payment details, photos, messages, and audio that you play,” reads the screen accompanying the call recording prompt.

We’re glad to see the Meta-owned app catching up to the likes of Zoom and Microsoft Teams with this feature. Screen sharing is handy for scenarios like presentations during work meetings. But we can also see WhatsApp screen sharing being used for informal tech support, allowing a family member to assist another if they’re having trouble with a feature on their phone.

iPhone 16 Pro models said to offer biggest display yet, new cameras: Here are the details

By Ankita Garg: The iPhone 16 series is again in the news as more details about the 2024 iPhones have surfaced online. The iPhone 16 Pro models are said to come with the biggest display sizes ever and new cameras. The claims are pretty big and it is a bit surprising considering the launch of this series is more than a year away and the leaks for next year’s models are pouring in every week. Here are all the details.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the display sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will increase by "a couple tenths of an inch diagonally." The existing iPhone 14 Pro version packs a 6.1 screen, whereas the iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a 6.7-inch panel. The rumour mill says that the iPhone 15 series will retain the old display sizes and its successor will have bigger screens.

The cited source’s latest report backs the recent leaks that claimed that the Pro models will come with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screens, respectively. Ming-Chi Kuo has also hinted the same that the 2024 iPhones will be much larger. Though, Ross Young of DSCC tweeted out slightly different screen sizes - 6.2 inches and 6.8 inches. But, at least we know what to expect from next year’s models. The devices will likely have an OLED display because this is something that Apple has been offering for a long time now.

As for cameras, tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will get a new Sony IMX903 1/1.14-inch camera sensor at the back, which was also suggested by tipster ShrimpApplePro.

The iPhone 16 Pro models are also said to come with a new periscope camera at the back, which Apple is tipped to offer with only iPhone 15 Pro Max later this year. This periscope lens could offer support for up to 6x optical zoom on the Max model and the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to retain 3x optical zoom support.

The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch in India and all over the world in September this year if we go by previous events. The iPhone 16 series will arrive at the end of next year and it is way too early to talk about its launch timeline.
